For the birds...
In the original photograph in this design, the Great Blue Heron, standing along the bank of a canal, seems to be noticing something farther up the waterway, a possible threat to his territory. He puffs up the bluish gray feathers on his back to make himself look bigger. With his long, thin legs spread and his head and beak turned to the side, the bird almost looks like someone on a subway platform, waiting for a train.
