There are autumn harvest celebrations in lots of places around the world. In the U.S.A. we celebrate Thanksgiving. But before that, we have a holiday called Halloween. It's about ghosts, full moons and other spooky things, and pumpkins carved with faces, and dressing up in costumes to go "Trick or Treating", that is, traveling the neighborhood "begging" for candy. Some people have parties and decorate the house, but they don't make pumpkin pie until Thanksgiving...

EASY PUMPKIN PIE

1 (16 oz.) can pumpkin 1 (14 oz.) can sweetened condensed milk 2 eggs 1 tsp. cinnamon 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. ginger 1/2 tsp. nutmeg Combine and beat until smooth and well blended. Stir in spices. Pour into an unbaked 9" pie shell. Bake in preheated 425 degree oven for 15 minutes. Reduce oven to 350 degrees and continue baking pie 50-60 minutes or until a knife inserted in center comes out clean. Cool before cutting and garnish with whipped cream.

Halloween (also spelled Hallowe’en) is a holiday celebrated on October 31. It has roots in the Celtic festival of Samhain and the Christian holy day of All Saints’ Day. It is largely a secular celebration, but some Christians and pagans have expressed strong feelings about its religious overtones. Irish immigrants carried versions of the tradition to North America during Ireland's Great Famine of 1846. The day is often associated with the colors orange and black, and is strongly associated with symbols such as the jack-o'-lantern. Halloween activities include trick-or-treating, wearing costumes, ghost tours, bonfires, costume parties, visiting haunted attractions, carving jack-o'-lanterns, reading scary stories, and watching horror movies.
